October 6, 2005 - Masquerade Ball raises money for theater group

Editor's note: The Center Stage column will appear the first Thursday of each month in the Daily Tribune. The column features information from the Wisconsin Rapids Area Community Theatre, the Arts Council of South Wood County and the Central Wisconsin Cultural Center.

Thirty years ago, a dream was born. And like all good parents, the board of directors and volunteers of Wisconsin Rapids Community Theatre are so proud that we've decided to throw the best darn party you've ever seen. What could be more fitting than a Masquerade Ball?

With less than two weeks to go, we're furiously at work, putting the final touches on the decorations and entertainment that will fill the Centralia Center the night of Oct. 15. The River Walk will be transformed into Central Park, and our ballroom will be lined with posters remembering some of our favorite productions from the past 30 seasons.

The Masquerade Ball itself will be a fundraiser for WRCT and the Downtown Cluster of the Community Progress Initiative, with monies going to our dream projects in downtown Wisconsin Rapids. Along with dancing and a full line-up of entertainment, we'll have a live auction, silent auction and raffle on 30 overflowing baskets of goodies and treats.

You don't want to come to a Masquerade Ball without a glorious mask - and WRCT has a wonderful supply of feathered and jeweled masks to match every mood and outfit. They're on display at the WRCT office in the Rapids Mall, open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily, except Thursday.

The festivities begin at 8 p.m. and last until midnight. Tickets begin at $25, and include a light supper, with sponsor tickets available at higher levels of giving. While you're purchasing your Masquerade Ball tickets, pick up tickets for our fall play, "Escanaba in Da Moonlight." This hilarious deer-hunter comedy is bound to be a hit, so we urge you to get tickets early to avoid disappointment. Whether you're a deer hunter yourself, or the wife left behind, you won't want to miss this show.
