October 27, 2005 - Residents invited to join club

By Melissa Loken for the Daily Tribune

Editor’s note: The Daily Tribune will regularly run columns updating Community Progress Initiative activities and the work of its industry clusters in local communities.

An entrepreneur is defined by World Book Dictionary as "a person who organizes and manages a business or industrial undertaking."

The acronym B2B means business to business.

The Small Business Cluster looks beyond the dictionary definition of an entrepreneur and sees the needs of the person behind the business. As a result of a survey, administered last fall by the Small Business Cluster, cluster members defined the needs of the individuals involved in the operation of a business.

The cluster determined that an effective way of meeting the needs of our community's entrepreneurs would be to form the Entrepreneurial B2B Club.

This club serves as a way for entrepreneurs to gain knowledge, network and act as a support system for the individual business owner. It is a confidential and casual environment that welcomes anyone with an interest in being in business. The club currently meets during the noon hour the first Wednesday of the month at the auditorium in the Wood County Courthouse, 400 Market St. Lunch is provided free of charge courtesy of local business sponsors.

Our next club meeting is scheduled to include a visit from the secretary of the Department of Commerce, Mary Burke and the secretary of the Department of Financial Institutions, Lorrie Keating Heinemann. Their message will pertain to the Grow Wisconsin Plan.

Bob Miller, of Wipfli, LLP, will provide a sneak peek of the Dec. 7 club meetings topic of budgeting. In January, we will welcome our friends from the Wisconsin Common Market to inform our entrepreneurs of a great way to sell their products over the Internet.

Bring your ideas and your business cards and join us at noon Nov. 2 at the Wood County Courthouse auditorium. If you have any questions about the Entrepreneurial B2B Club, call 422-4856 or visit our Web site, http:progressinitiative.com.

Melissa Loken is a member of the Community Progress Initiative Small Business Cluster.
