Breaking News January 13, 2006 - Rudolph ready to plan, celebrate By Nathaniel Shuda, Daily Tribune RUDOLPH -- Members of a Rudolph Community Progress Initiative team will plan for the future and burn decorations from the not-too-distant past during a community gathering Saturday. And everyone's invited. The event includes a community calendar planning session as well as a Christmas tree bonfire. It's set for 4 p.m. Saturday at Rusty's Backwater Saloon, 1715 W. River Drive, outside of Stevens Point. Kathy Hartjes, co-chairwoman of Rudolph's progress team, said the event and the calendar planning activity were started to create an organized way of publicizing events in the Rudolph area. "One of the things we found in a meeting with both the town and village together is that people didn't know what other businesses and organizations were doing," Hartjes said. Team members met with representatives from Rudolph's business owner's club and came up with the idea of creating a community "year at a glance," she said. And after receiving three grants in 2005, the team thought it was "time to do some celebrating," while still gearing up for the coming year. Having a dual purpose for the same event is a good idea, said Dawn Vruwink, a 15-year resident of the Rudolph area and a member of the Community Foundation of South Wood County, one of the Community Progress Initiative's sponsors. "It's a type of celebration because we've been working on the Community Progress Initiative in Rudolph, and this is an opportunity for us to enjoy all the progress we've made so far." |
