March 2, 2006 - Rudolph is fired up about events

By: Kathy Hartjes, for the Daily Tribune

Rudolph Progress Initiative volunteers have been very busy, and we have been focused on one major issue -- collaboration. In January, we gathered members of organizations and businesses in Rudolph for a calendar party.

Rudolph residents gathered at Rusty's Backwater Saloon on Jan. 14, to generate ideas for the new year and contribute to a Rudolph Community Calendar.

Residents, armed with markers and pens, walked along the wall-sized calendar and wrote down already existing annual events. This activity was focused on coordinating events and collaboration of organizations. We feel these attributes are incredibly important in a successful community. Planning new events around established events and making sure that things are coordinated appropriately will make our community events not only successful, but will allow the most people to attend.

Following the sharing of calendar ideas, folks headed outside to enjoy the picture-perfect winter evening around a bonfire built of discarded Christmas of trees.

Back inside, Rusty served up his famous chili, and everyone warmed up with the potluck appetizers and desserts brought by the attendees.

The evening also included a brainstorming session on ideas for upcoming events. Ideas were collated into kids, youth and adult activities. Ideas included water balloon games, pet show, movie night and an intramural sports club. We plan to work with local groups to sponsor some of these activities.

We want to make sure we have included all dates for upcoming events on our Rudolph Community Calendar. Please visit www.visitrudolph.org to view the calendar. If you have additional dates, please e-mail Christy Steinle at dsteinle@wctc.net or call 435-4416 or e-mail me at hart@wctc.net, 435-3994.

Rudolph Progress Initiative volunteers continue to work hard to better our community. We invite all to join in on this rewarding work. Please contact Christy or me if you would like to get involved.
