March 13, 2006 - Congratulations, Port Edwards

By: Marshall Buehler, for the Daily Tribune

Editor's note: The Daily Tribune will regularly run columns updating Community Progress Initiative activities and the work of its groups in local communities.

PORT EDWARDS -- Congratulations are in order for village of Port Edwards residents since they were the first and so far the only, community in the Community Progress Initiative to meet their financial goal of raising $20,000 for the Port Progress Fund.

Port Edwards had support from the Gerard and Doris Veneman Family Advised Fund through the Community Foundation of South Wood County. This fund matched donations dollar for dollar, as did the Barker Mead Fund through the Community Foundation. So a big thank you to both of these funds for investing in Port Edwards.

The money raised is held in an endowment fund at Community Foundation of South Wood County. Although the principal is never spent, the interest it earns may be used for small projects that will make life in Port Edwards a little bit better and still not raise tax levies.

Any village resident, club, organization or group may make a suggestion on how to spend these funds. To make a suggestion, pick up a form at the village municipal office and submit it to the Port Progress Fund committee.

We look forward to working with clubs, organizations and even individuals to carry out community improvement projects.

Together, we can accomplish a lot.

Nice work Port Edwards!
