March 20, 2006 - Meetings, boot camp to help business

By: Melissa Loken, for the Daily Tribune

Editor's note: The Daily Tribune will regularly run columns updating Community Progress Initiative activities and the work of its groups in local communities.

Are you thinking of going into business for yourself? Would you like to refocus the direction of the business you currently operate? Are you interested in business expansion? Do you have questions about any aspect of business operations?

If you answered "yes" or "maybe" to any of the questions above, the Small Business Cluster of the Community Progress Initiative has programs available to provide that helping hand. At noon April 5 in the Wood County Courthouse Auditorium, the Business to Business Club will meet to explore resources available to help businesses.

The meeting will feature a local SCORE representative explaining the services that SCORE can provide to help business owners succeed. Vicki Lobermeier from the Small Business Development Center of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will share her business development expertise and highlight all the great programs the SBDC has to offer. Ann Lepak from Opportunity Development Center will share information on the services that ODC has available that can make operating a small business easier. The meeting includes lunch and is open to anyone interested in business. Please bring your business cards, as networking also is encouraged.

From April 27 to 29 and May 1 will bring another Entrepreneurial Boot Camp to Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids. This dynamic program addresses the concerns of business planning and business expansion. Participants are treated to a variety of professional service providers sharing their expertise on issues such as financial planning, marketing, goal setting, legal services, and financial resources. The cost of this program is $75 and includes all materials, snacks and lunch Saturday.

The Thursday and Friday sessions are from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday camp is held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, participants share their plans with a panel of experts who provide advice to lead people to their next steps in business expansion or development.

We also welcome anyone with an interest in helping business owners succeed to attend our Small Business Cluster meetings. The next meeting of the Small Business Cluster will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday March 29 at the RCH Building. If you have any questions about Industry Clusters or any of the programs offered, please call me at 422-4856.
