April 17, 2006 - Evening Business 2 Business Club

By: Bob Miller, for the Daily Tribune

Editor's note: The Daily Tribune will regularly publish columns updating Community Progress Initiative activities and the work of its groups in local communities.

The Community Progress Initiative set the priority of creating a business friendly culture in the Heart of Wisconsin area.

To create this culture, there is a need to nurture existing businesses by addressing their needs and providing a place for business owners to discuss their challenges and gain knowledge in a supportive environment.

The Business 2 Business Club regularly fills this need at noon the first Wednesday of every month at the Wood County Courthouse Auditorium. Business owners are treated to lunch, a speaker and the opportunity to network, all in one hour.

Some of the topics discussed need more attention than just that short time frame, thus the creation of the Encore Evening Business 2 Business Club.

Budgeting is one of the topics that, because of the importance, we have decided to feature at our Encore Club meeting. Budgeting requires you to look ahead and formalize future goals. By establishing a budget, you can set goals for achieving a certain level of income and monitor your expenses. A budget can be one of the most valuable tools a business owner can develop.

There is an opportunity for you to join fellow business owners for networking beginning at 6 p.m. April 24 at the Elks Club, and at 6:30 p.m. you will learn the basics of designing a winning 2006 financial game plan. We will start with learning how to review your past performance and identify opportunities. Then learn to identify benchmarks and compare your results to identify strengths and areas needing improvement. Expense and revenue plans also will be discussed. There will be time for a question-and-answer session, as well as time to meet other business owners. As an added bonus, anyone in attendance at the end of the presentation will receive a free drink ticket. RSVPs are not required.

Changing the culture of a community takes time and commitment. The Small Business Cluster of the Community Progress Initiative has accepted the challenge to make this a business friendly community and will continue to provide opportunities for business owners to take their business to the next level. Please call the Heart of Wisconsin Business & Economic Alliance at 715-423-1830 to learn more about the Small Business Cluster or the Business 2 Business Club.
