May 8, 2006 - Get involved with a progress team

By: Tom Marshall and Jean Young, for the Daily Tribune

Editor's note: The Daily Tribune will publish columns regularly with updates on the Community Progress Initiative.

The Biron, Grand Rapids and Wisconsin Rapids Community Progress Initiative Team meets on a monthly basis and consists of approximately 20 very active members. Attendance at all the meetings has been outstanding, and the membership includes representation from a variety of different businesses and backgrounds.

Currently, the team is working on a presentation that will be introduced at the three areas' governmental meetings during the next several months. The focus of the presentation will be to promote and create a better understanding of our area's vision statement.

Our vision statement: The Wisconsin Rapids area is a close-knit inclusive community that celebrates diversity, supports and promotes the arts and special events, and offers a hip, cosmopolitan and bustling downtown.

We support a thriving, diversified economy in a healthy environment, and through a strategy of regional branding, we support the development of businesses and entrepreneurship. Unique recreational and tourism opportunities are abundant and anchored by a historic downtown/riverfront neighborhood.

Another one of our current projects is to identify a location where a kiosk can be constructed that will consist of information that will allow area visitors to learn of the many wonderful attractions in the Greater Wisconsin Rapids Area. Pamphlets and brochures will encourage curiosity and will promote a desire for our visitors to spend several days in our area.

Finally, once again we are planning a community picnic which will take place June 30 at Grand Rapids Lions Park. The picnic begins at 4:30 p.m. Plan to join us for entertainment, live music, food, children's activities and much more. This will be the second year that the Biron, Grand Rapids and Wisconsin Rapids municipalities will work together to encourage and promote a celebration of this great area in which we live.

This year's community picnic promises to be an even larger celebration, as all progress teams, progress funds and clusters will be invited to participate. More information about this exciting event will be forthcoming.

If you would like to get involved with the Biron, Grand Rapids and Wisconsin Rapids Progress Team, please call us. You can reach Tom Marshall at 423-1921 and Jean Young at 424-0527.
