Breaking News May 15, 2006 - New site's goal: Encourage new ideas in business By: Melissa Loken, for the Daily Tribune The New Economies Cluster of the Community Progress Initiative is very proud to unveil the Ideas Incubator Web site. This site will provide anyone with an opinion on what businesses should locate or expand in our community a place to capture those ideas and participate in developing those ideas into viable businesses. This also is a place for investors to access projects and entrepreneurs to gain ideas and collaborate with others to create new businesses. The Ideas Incubator consists of a Web-driven database for the collection, sorting, growing and matching of ideas. The system is designed to flow both directions: ideas seeking entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurs seeking ideas; businesses seeking sources of services and suppliers; agencies and suppliers seeking ways to expand their offerings and gain new customers; identifying target industries to recruit; and industries looking for growth opportunities. It works like this: An idea/need comes into the Ideas Incubator through an online entry. Users of the incubator might discover the idea is one that fits an existing business and suggest they expand to offer this. Connections then will be made with that business to determine the feasibility of the idea, and the interest in pursuing the new growth opportunity for the business. If they decide to run with it -- they expand their business. If they decide this isn't right for them, it might go back to the Ideas Incubator for additional incubation or there might be an opportunity to attract or start up a business around this idea/need. Similarly, entrepreneurs are encouraged to pick up ideas from the incubator and develop business plans to move the idea from incubation to completion. The forums provide the opportunity to collaborate and discuss business ideas. A newsletter will also be created to share information among Ideas Incubator users. It will contain resource information, success stories, and opportunities for business owners to submit requests for supplies and services and share their services and products with other users. The Ideas Incubator will be unveiled 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Hotel Mead. Please call 423-1830 if you would like to join us for the unveiling. If you have any questions about the Ideas Incubator, please contact me at 422-4856. Melissa Loken works for the Heart of Wisconsin Business & Economic Alliance in Wisconsin Rapids.
