Breaking News June 26, 2006 - 2md Annual Community Picnic set for Friday By Tom Marshall, for the Daily Tribune The Biron, Grand Rapids and Wisconsin Rapids Area Community Progress Team is holding the Second annual Community Picnic from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday at the Grand Rapids Lions Park. This event, which drew over 300 visitors last year, is sure to be even bigger and better this year. The response we received during last year's event was overwhelming. People really enjoyed themselves, and we just knew this would have to be an annual event. Jean Young, a committee member, pointed out the excellent venue, "Working with the Lions Club has been wonderful. They are such great supporters of community events like this one." This year's event will include food and refreshments, activities for the kids, and entertainment by Karate America, Dance with Pam, Pam Ross and Wayne Jaworski, and The Lizardz. "We've got something for everyone," explains Kristy Anderson, a Lincoln High School senior. "The kids love riding the train around the pond, or playing on the inflatable toys, and who doesn't love summer food -- hamburgers, hot dogs, and my favorite cheese curds?" One of the goals of the Community Picnic is to promote collaboration and build a sense of unity among the three municipalities in the Rapids area. Beth Knobeck, community picnic committee member, explains "This event really showcases what building a better community is all about. It is often about hard work, but in this case it's about celebrating -- celebrating what a great community we live in." Join the fun at the Second annual Community Picnic Friday at the Grand Rapids Lions Park. The picnic committee is still looking for volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Tom Marshall at 423-1921. |
