Breaking News July 17, 2006 - Camp helps you be your own boss By: Melissa Loken, for the Daily Tribune The thought of owning your own business may be looming in the back of your mind. You may have even sat down and planned out what your business will look like, and the products or services you might sell. You've probably bounced ideas off your friends and family. Questions of how to finance your business venture might make you uneasy. Chances are you may be very nervous about taking the leap into business ownership. You are not alone. We have had 83 people just like you participate in our training program for people interested in owning their own business. Forty-six of those people are currently operating their own business. They have had their questions about marketing, legal issues, site selection, writing the business plan, resources available, innovation, financial planning, financing and how to operate a successful business answered by professionals. They have gained a network of professionals and fellow entrepreneurs to serve as their support team. You can do this too. The next Entrepreneurial Boot Camp will be held on Aug. 3, 4 and 6, beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m. The Aug. 5 session will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $75 and includes all materials, and refreshments. The Community Progress Initiative's mission is to create an innovative, self-reliant and business friendly culture in a vibrant community with a prosperous local economy. To fulfill this mission, programs such as the Boot Camp are being created to give everyone who is interested in owning their own business the best chance to succeed. Alan Alda's quote says it best, "You can't get there by bus, only by hard work and risk and by not quite knowing what you're doing. What you'll discover will be wonderful. What you'll discover will be yourself." Owning a business definitely involves risks. Taking advantage of the Boot Camp gives you the tools to help manage those risks.
