Breaking News August 7, 2006 - Outdoor movie event returns By: Kristopher Gasch, for the Daily Tribune After the warm response we received from the first event in June, Downtown Classic Cinema Under the Stars will return Aug. 17 for a second event. Perhaps this time we won’t get rained on? Like last time, food will be available starting at 6:30 p.m. and will continue until the movie starts at dusk. We’re happy to have Great Expectations, the Downtown Hot Dog Guy and several other back as vendors. Additionally From the Ground Up will serve theme drinks and other treats, along with many other downtown businesses. This event originally stemmed from the Heart of Wisconsin Business & Economic Alliances’ 2005-06 Leadership Class. Designed primarily as an event for the Downtown West Side, our intention was to benefit local businesses on Grand Avenue. These businesses deserve an event, and what better way than to have it right outside their doors? It was, perhaps most interesting to note the variety of people who attended our first event in June. So many children (many of whom had never been to an outdoor movie before), married couples, groups of teenagers and elderly couples snuggled up on park benches. While the children were excited to experience their first outdoor movie, their grandparents were reminiscing about the drive-in theaters and outdoor movies of their youth. We’re very happy that so many people came out to support our first event. Not knowing what kind of a response we would get, the 600-plus people who attended spoke volumes in their presence. Come spend a night with friends, family, a great classic movie and some stars. Whether it’s a new experience or a nostalgic one, we hope to share it with you at Downtown Classic Cinema Under the Stars. |
