September 28, 2006 - Rudolph sesquicentennial organizers deem it a success

By: Kathy Hartjes and Christy Steinle, for the Daily Tribune

You know you live in a great small town when:

- You ask for volunteers to plan a 150th birthday party and folks call you to say “yes.”
- Your family, friends, and neighbors help organize a parade, bake pies, set up and operate a hamburger stand, drink area, craft market, kickball tournament and also sell souvenirs.
- “Historians” spend more than a year researching family trees and century farms. Then they offer more time, displaying and sharing their findings for governmental presentations.
- Talented individuals and local businesses offer gift certificates and prizes for raffles.
- You watch an hour-long parade of 120 units traveling down Main Street on its way to the park, or better yet, you’re in the parade.
- You cheer for kids and teens tugging on a rope in a sand court.
- You sing “The Belly Button Song” with your dad – on stage.
- You jump around in a gunny sack trying to beat your best friend to the end of a field.
- You sit around a picnic table for hours with dear friends, looking at pictures of your old school and your grandparents’ farmhouse.
- You went to a great birthday party that started with raising our American flag and ended with Rudolph fireworks.

Thanks to all who helped make it possible.
