Breaking News November 13, 2006 - Local progress fund dontations can be doubled By: Mary Wirtz, for the Daily Tribune You have only a few short weeks to have your donation doubled. As part of the Community Progress Initiative, seven progress funds were established through Community Foundation of South Wood County for the following seven areas: Nekoosa area, Pittsville area, Port Edwards, Rome, Rudolph, Vesper area and Wisconsin Rapids area -- including Grand Rapids and Biron. Each fund promises that the money donated, and the grants made, will be designated to improvement projects that enrich the quality of life for local residents and visitors. These funds are endowed, and therefore will be available for each community forever. Since early 2005, more than $21,000 has been granted for 33 community projects. The residents who serve on your local progress fund committees have been very busy gathering contributions so that more grant money will be available for the near and distant future. You may donate at any time, but we encourage you to make your donation before Dec. 31. Donations made before Dec. 31 will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $20,000 per fund, by the Barker Mead Fund, through the Community Foundation of South Wood County. This is your chance to have your gift doubled, thus doubling the earning power of your community's fund and doubling the potential of future community improvement grants. These funds have supported many community events and projects, from the upgrading of a historical landmark in Nekoosa, to supporting a community picnic in the town of Grand Rapids. Please support the place you call home. For information, visit www.progress initiative.com or call the Community Foundation at 423-3863. |
