Breaking News November 20, 2006 - Vesper fund past half-way mark! By Ruth Cline, for the Daily Tribune VESPER -- Generous support from businesses, organizations and individuals has helped push the Vesper Area Fund balance to $11,266.71. Thank you to everyone for helping to raise these endowment dollars. All contributions made to the fund by Dec. 31 will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $20,000, by the Barker Mead Fund through the Community Foundation of South Wood County. Our goal is to raise $20,000 by that date, but we need your help. The Vesper Area Progress Fund Committee is excited to announce a grand event for New Year's Eve. We invite you to attend a special New Year's Eve Party on Dec. 31 at Vesper Community Center. Doors open at 7 p.m., and a fabulous steak dinner with all the trimmings will be served at 8 p.m., with music by Got Music and dancing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. There will be an open bar all evening, door prizes, fun and more. Tickets are $50 per person, available at Jo Jo's in Vesper or by calling Todd Eckes, 569-4990, or Ruth Cline, 569-4202. Net proceeds from the New Year's Eve dinner and party will go to the Vesper Area Progress Fund. We urge you to buy your tickets soon as there are a limited number of tickets available. What is the Vesper Area Progress Fund? The Vesper Area Community Progress Initiative includes Vesper and the towns surrounding Vesper. The Progress Fund is the community's permanent endowment fund; the principal is invested and never spent so that it remains and grows forever. Annually, a portion of the earnings is made available in the form of grants to support local community improvement projects. Six grants have been made from the fund since it was established -- all were given to local groups working on projects to improve our community. What types of improvements would you like to see in your town or in Vesper? The Vesper Area Progress Fund is designed to help support the improvements that local residents desire. Residents working on a community improvement idea and local groups and organizations may apply for grants from the Progress Fund to help their community project succeed. I have lived in the Vesper area for 60 years, and my family has wonderful memories of the area. In memory of my family, I donated to the Vesper Area Fund in 2005 and I plan to give a gift in 2006 as well. My gifts and yours are the seeds that will grow for Vesper area -- forever. If 500 families living in our area gave $10 each, the fund would grow by $5,000. If 60 businesses in our area gave $50 each, the fund would grow by $3,000. And if given by Dec. 31, all of these donations would be doubled. If we reach our goal of raising another $9,175 by Dec. 31, your community's Progress Fund balance will reach $20,000 and will be doubled to $40,000. With a $40,000 principal, approximately $2,000 will be available in the future for annual grants, and that amount will grow greater during time. What a wonderful legacy for residents, businesses and organizations to leave for their community. Your gift to the community's progress fund is a gift that will be returned forever in the form of community improvement grants. Please consider a tax deductible gift of $10, $50 or more before Dec. 31. Checks to the Vesper Area Progress Fund may be mailed to CFSWC, 478 E .Grand Ave., Wisconsin Rapids WI 54494, or given to any member of the Vesper Area Fund committee: Ruth Cline, Ray Behling, Diane Kohls or Dan Schuenemann. Call any of them with questions about the Vesper Area Fund. And don't forget your tickets for the New Year's Eve dinner and party. |
