December 11, 2006 - Coffee, beverage day warms up community fund

By Tom Marshall, for the Daily Tribune

The Wisconsin Rapids, Biron and Grand Rapids Community Funds Committee held a "Coffee and Beverage Day" on Dec. 4. This unique fundraiser was organized collaboratively by the Wisconsin Rapids Area Progress Fund Committee and the Wisconsin Rapids Area Progress Team. Big Apple Bagels, Cravings, From the Ground Up, Hurley Coffee Co. and McMillan Coffeehouse all participated in this successful event. These locally owned businesses donated a large portion of their receipts on that day to the Wisconsin Rapids Area Progress Fund.

The amount of money donated is important in terms of the Fund Committee's attempt to reach a goal of $20,000. Currently, the targeted goal of $20,000 has not been reached, and the committee continues to seek additional contributions. As most everyone knows, all donations to the Wisconsin Rapids Area Progress Fund, up to $20,000, will be matched by the very generous Barker Mead Fund, through the Community Foundation of South Wood County. But this offer is only available until Dec. 31. You only have a few short weeks to have your contribution to the Wisconsin Rapids Area Progress Fund matched dollar for dollar.

The money will be reinvested into our community for the expressed purpose of making this area an even better place in which to live. Please contact the Community Foundation of South Wood County at 423-3863 if you have any questions or visit www.progressinitiative.com. All contributions, of course, are totally tax deductible. Please consider our -- and your -- community needs during this month.

Although the "bottom line" for the "Coffee/Beverage Day" has not yet been determined, another one of the wonderful things that happened that day was that many people in our community gathered together for a friendly visit and a cup of coffee. This, of course, added to the success of the day!

We would like to again express our very sincere gratitude to those that came out to purchase a beverage and to the five locally owned businesses for their support. It is outstanding to see local businesses working together to make things happen in our area.
