December 18, 2006 - Boot Camp connects business owners

By: Melissa Loken, for the Daily Tribune

Webster's Merriam Online Dictionary defines connection as a "political, social, professional, or commercial relationship."

Connections in the business world are invaluable. They can be the difference between a business having success and struggling to stay afloat.

Developing those connections sometimes can be intimidating, especially early on when a business owner is facing many difficult decisions.

Entrepreneurial Boot Camp is a great way for a new business owner to develop connections in the business community.

In a safe and confidential environment, participants of the Boot Camp develop relationships with professionals who are key to making their business a success. Critical questions to business development are answered and opportunities are explored. Participants leave having created the relationships necessary to complete the next steps identified by the panel of experts.

Connections also are made between participants. Past Boot Campers have become each other's customers and provided suggestions and advice for business success. Support networks have developed and experiences are shared together.

Your new or existing business will benefit from the connections made during Boot Camp.

The next session will take place at Mid-State Technical College's Wisconsin Rapids campus from Jan. 18 to 22. This course is open to anyone already in business or who is considering opening a business in the area. The cost is $75 and includes all materials and some meals and snacks. For more information, call me at 422-4856 or stop by the Heart of Wisconsin Business & Economic Alliance, 1120 Lincoln St. in Wisconsin Rapids.

Melissa Loken is the business development specialist for the Heart of Wisconsin Business & Economic Alliance.
