Breaking News February 19, 2007 - Teams and clusters create progress By Melissa Lokan, for the Daily Tribune On Feb. 6th, representatives of the Community Progress Initiative in the areas of Industry Clusters and Progress Teams met with David Beurle, of Innovative Leadership Australia to determine their role in shaping the future of our region. One of the commitments made for 2007 is to expand the community participation in the Progress Teams and Industry Clusters by engaging the rest of the community in creating the future, combining a positive entrepreneurial environment and new industries with positive community culture including engaged citizens. Watch and listen for these conversations out in the community. Absolutely every citizen in our community is welcomed to be a part of the Industry Clusters and Progress Teams. We need your knowledge, your ideas and your support to sustain the strong and innovative clusters and teams. We need people with interests in areas such as arts, history, business and industry, innovation, technology, logistics, software development, education, marketing, event planning, tourism, agriculture, natural resources, paper, downtown revitalization, hometown support, community building activities, beautification of our communities and if I haven't mentioned something that interests you yet, just call me and I can help you find a cluster or team that would be a great fit for you. You can join us on a study tour to Beloit on March 7 as a great way to meet people already involved in the Community Progress Initiative and bring back practical advice from members of another community that has had to reinvent itself. You're also invited to the Arts & Heritage Cluster public presentations at 6:30 p.m. March 6 or 9 a.m. March 7 at the Central Wisconsin Cultural Center, 240 Johnson St., Wisconsin Rapids. The North Carolina and Ireland study tour highlights and lessons learned will be shared, and there will be an engaging discussion on the arts and heritage assets of our area. This will be an opportunity to become part of a formative group, the Arts & Heritage Cluster, dedicated to engaging and illuminating our arts and heritage. The program is free and open to everyone. If you are a member of a service club or organization that is in need of a speaker or program, we have many very engaging speakers who are available to showcase the many ways that you can join others in Making It Happen. For more information about any of the opportunities within the Community Progress Initiative, you can visit our Web site at www.progressinitiative.com or call me at 422-4856.
