March 26, 2007 - Leadership group reaches out to care for community

Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune

On March 31, the Heart of Wisconsin Business and Economic Alliance Community Leadership Group will host Community Care Day.

This event, the first of its kind, is targeted at reaching the population needing assistance in the Wisconsin Rapids area. Community Care Day will feature many complimentary services, including medical screenings, haircuts, budget counseling and child fingerprinting. In addition to the offered services, the event will host an information fair, a hot meal will be served, and child care will be offered for people attending.

The mission of this event is to reach out to individuals and families in need in our community, connect them with services that are able to help them and link them into the health and human services available in our area.

Community Care Day is made possible through the generous donation of 15 service providers, several in-kind donations, a grant from Community Foundation of South Wood County and the efforts of countless volunteers. The event will be held at Lincoln High School from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Services will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. All medical screenings and services will be provided by trained and licensed professionals.

The Heart of Wisconsin Community Leadership Program is an aggressive and dynamic program, which develops and coordinates creative leadership to help solve community problems and initiate action. As part of this eight-month program, participants are asked to develop and coordinate a community leadership project. Community Care Day was created as the 2007 Leadership Group's community project and is a result of the work of 15 individuals. Participants include:
