Breaking News October 8, 2007 - Celebrate seasons in Vesper By: Ruth Cline, for the Daily Tribune As the colors begin to change, Vesper takes on a new look, with scarecrows appearing throughout our community. Many are created by our elementary school students. Don't mistake a scarecrow for an actual person -- many of the scarecrows look very much like Vesper residents! Of course this is all done in good taste and is so much fun. Vesper area residents are challenged to add a scarecrow to their fall decorations. A secret scare crow counter reports on the number of scarecrows found. How many scarecrows can you find? Oct. 31 is Halloween and "Celebrate Fall in Vesper." Plans include a brat fry, party at the library, Friends of Library bake sale, spooky characters throughout the community, pumpkin farm tour, apple orchard, cranberry roadside stand and fun for all. After the scarecrows go into hibernation, the snowmen start appearing and it is time to celebrate the winter season. Our elementary school students will again grace our community with their artistic holiday creations. The village and rural areas come alive as residents decorate their yards and homes. It is also time for the Library Holiday Craft Sale. This year, the sale is Nov. 25, and there will be a twist. The new chairperson is collaborating with area businesses, organizations and residents to make this day a community-based family event. Community involvement -- it truly is a grand way to end the year. On Dec. 2, we will have a community get together. The purpose of this gathering is to review where we've been, where we are, where we want to be and how to continue our journey to reach our 2008 goals. More details will be shared on this event at a later date, so mark your calendar now. As chairwoman of the Vesper Community Progress Team, I am very proud of the people in the Vesper area community. It is a pleasure working with great folks with a strong vision for their community. I thank everyone both in the Vesper area and many others with ties to the area for your tremendous support. It has truly been a successful journey for our community. We are never done. Ruth Cline is the Vesper Area Progress Team chairwoman. |
