October 29, 2007 - Teen's Rudolph design chosen for holiday ornament

By: Dale Aumann, for the Daily Tribune

The holiday season is right around the corner, and we've found the perfect gift for you. Purchase a limited-edition Rudolph ornament.

The Rudolph Progress Fund Committee is excited to announce the availability of their annual holiday ornament. Whether you were lucky enough to purchase a 2006 ornament, you will not want to miss out on this local specialty item.

The second annual commemorative Rudolph ornament features the local talent of Lincoln High School sophomore Katy Baciak.

Katy, the daughter of Joseph and Cindy Baciak of Wisconsin Rapids, came up with the idea for the design after learning of the contest in her ninth-grade art class.

Sharon Aiken-Bruha, Katy's art teacher last spring at West Junior High School, gave the assignment to all of her art students, as she does when something local comes up. "That way they see how art can have an impact," said Aiken-Bruha. She selected the most promising pieces to send in for judging.

Katy decided her theme would portray Rudolph the reindeer. She wanted her design to be festive, so she added holiday lights to the reindeer's antlers. The reindeer also is waving a holiday sign. This design was one of several displayed at the Rudolph Post Office and voted on by the public.

The design contest was a collaborative effort between Rudolph's Progress Fund and Country Christmas committees. The committees were looking for a Christmas design that could be used for both the ornament and the postage cancellation.

The commemorative ornament is $10 and can be picked up at Rudolph Country Christmas, Dec. 8. Proceeds from the sale go to the Rudolph Progress Fund, which provides grants for community activities and projects, including the Rudolph Sesquicentennial Book and celebration, the annual fall kickball tournament, and Rudolph Country Christmas. Your generous support of this fund is greatly appreciated.

Please continue your support through the purchase of a Rudolph commemorative ornament. Quantities are limited, so purchase your keepsake ornament today. Ornaments are available in Rudolph at SOS Day Spa, 6459 Highway 34; Farmers & Merchant Bank, 1680 Main St.; and Farmers & Merchant Bank Branch Office, 5218 Highway 34.
