Breaking News November 12, 2007 - Artist of all ages invited to contribute cranberry art By: Mary Olson and Jeanne Weymouth, for the Daily Tribune During the inaugural Cranberry Blossom Festival in June, the Arts & Heritage Cluster created and sold high quality posters printed by Fey Publishing. The poster featured a colorful, cranberry-themed watercolor painting by artist and gallery owner Sara Muender. It's our goal to have a collectible poster each year, and the Arts & Heritage Cluster is happy to announce a "Call for Art" for the 2008 Cranberry Blossom Festival poster. Artists and students of any age, who work in any medium (paint, paper, fibers, metal, ceramics, sculpture, photography, mixed media, computer-generated prints, etc.) are invited to submit one or more cranberry-themed works of art to be featured on the 2008 Cranberry Blossom Festival poster and other promotional materials, such as placemats, postcards, T-shirts, blossomfest.com, etc. All work must be the original creation of the artist or student. Those who work in color are encouraged to use a smidge (or a smattering or an abundance) of "pinks" since pink is the color of cranberry blossoms found during June throughout the many marshes of Wisconsin. Cranberry-themed artwork can include but not be limited to: blossoms, planting, production, harvest, products, consumption, history, abstract images and more. Artwork by children is encouraged, too. Criteria for submission of cranberry-themed art: • Deadline: Feb. 1. The actual art pieces or photographs (digital or slide) must be submitted by that date. • Clearly label each piece with: artist name; address; phone number; e-mail address; medium; title of artwork; and price, if art is for sale. • Deliver to: Mary Olson, Community Foundation, 478 E. Grand Ave., Wisconsin Rapids WI 54494; call 423-3863 for office hours if you plan to personally deliver art. • Notice of winning work will be sent in March. • You will be contacted in March regarding the return of all art that you submitted. For more information, call Jeanne Weymouth, 424-4064, or Olson, 423-3863, co-chairwomen of Arts & Heritage Cluster, progressinitiative.com. You can also find a Call for Art form at www.blossomfest.com. Think PINK! The mission of the Arts & Heritage Cluster is to engage, unite and illuminate our arts for a vibrant community. Mary Olson and Jeanne Weymouth are co-chairwomen of the Arts & Heritage Cluster, which meets the second Wednesday of each month. |
