May 26, 2008 - Taste Rome

By: Kathleen Krueger, for the Daily Tribune

I cannot begin to convey to you how surprised and appreciative the Rome Connection Committee is for the award recently presented to them for the Outstanding Volunteer Award in the Adult Group Category by the United Way of Inner Wisconsin. In 2007 we were honored with the Event of the Year by Adams County Chamber.

Rome Connection Committee has remained focused on our mission to provide a ‘main event’ for our town and the surrounding communities, it was always our dream and hope that Taste of Rome would continue for years to come. Low and behold we are about to embark on our 4th Annual Taste of Rome, and speaking of, let me tell you what to expect at this year’s celebration on July 18 and 19th.

Friday 6-10pm - I would be negligent if I didn’t tell you to come very hungry to the Taste of Rome. Friday’s vendors include Great Expectations, Jamaican Kitchens, Pigs R Us, Post 442 and Sandy’s Flour Shop. Rumours Band will provide your favorite tunes while you peruse the Oldies Car Cruise In or even try your hand at casino.

Saturday 10-5pm Bring your family, friends and appetite as there will be something for everyone. Craft Fair starts at 10am, Parade 11am, Austin Healey Band 1-5pm, Bingo 2-4pm., games for the kids and Melody the Clown. A variety of savory edibles from Great Expectations, Jamaican Kitchens, Lake Arrowhead, Lake Sherwood Lodge, Pigs R Us, Post 442, Pritzl’s Trading Post, Romano’s and Sandy’s Flour Shop.

The South Shore Drill Team will not only be in our parade, but will provide a post parade performance. Everyone will enjoy this fast-paced show. You’ll be amazed at the costumes, scenery, and musical favorites. If you are a movie buff you might remember them from their appearance in Paramount Pictures “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”

There’s No Place Like Rome history book and the 2nd in a series Christmas ornament will be available for purchase. Please remember to mark your calendar and come to Rome where a gallon of gas will afford you the best weekend of the summer.

PS- Our special thanks to the Community Progress Initiative!

Kathleen is a member of the Rome Connection Committee.
