June 23, 2008 - Vesper Lions Support Community Progress

By: Ruth Cline, for the Daily Tribune

Vesper's Community Progress Initiative started in 2004. Vesper Lions a local service club lived up to their motto "We Serve" by providing support from the start. The club chartered in 1964. Over the years the club membership has changed; their motto has not! Come along and tour the Vesper Area Community and check out the amazing accomplishments of this remarkable little club. Welcome to Vesper Signs are a Lions Project, as we continue our tour .... check out examples of other community improvements: slow pitch league, continued support of ball diamond; contributions to Community Center, Vesper Recreation Center/Park, Vesper Fire Department, Wood County Sheriff's Department, Park Gazebo, flower pots on main street, and highway cleanup.

This small but resourceful club successfully hosts numerous fund raisers each year; club members contribute thousands of volunteer hours to make all of these great community projects happen! But wait, the tour is not over...the Lions support continues outside the Vesper Area as they drive all hours day or night for the eye bank, contribute both their time and funds to the Wisconsin Lions Foundation which provides funds for operation of the Lions Camp at Rosholt. Each summer hundreds of blind or otherwise disabled children enjoy a week at the camp at no charge. Contributions to the Leader Dog training program help provide guide dogs for the blind. Lions are well known for their support of vision programs. Individuals who have had eye surgery receive funds.

The Vesper Lions have continued their support to Vesper's Community Progress Initiative, offering matching fund opportunities, and members volunteering their time to help with community based events. In 2008 the club again lived up to their motto "We Serve" as the Initiative is on their list to receive funds.

Vesper Area is a better place to live because of the tremendous support from Vesper Lions Club, small in number of members but true to their motto "We Serve". On behalf of our community, we say thanks folks! Your support to Vesper Area helped plant the seeds.....for good things....for ever!

Information about Lions provided by club members.
