June 30, 2008 - Rome Goes Green

By: Arlene Scalzo, for the Daily Tribune

The first- ever CHOOSE TO RE-USE PROJECT is underway in the Town of Rome, launched by the Rome is MORE Community Progress Team.

Going Green is a choice.

On July 12th and 13th, you will have the opportunity to dispose of articles which are too good to throw away but which you no longer want to keep. A tent will be set up at the Town Transfer Site where you may drop off usable items (and pick up something you might want). Also, there will be a bulletin board at the Transfer Site where people can post larger items that they would like to dispose of, possibly with a picture of the item and a contact name/phone number

The purpose of this effort is two-fold. First, it keeps things out of our landfills. Secondly, it gives the community an opportunity to make usable things available to all members of the community, some of who may not have the resources to purchase the items. It is an opportunity to give back to the community.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!! The Rome is MORE Team is seeking volunteers to help us by taking two-hour shifts at the Transfer Site on that weekend. If you can spare just two hours of your time that weekend you can help us take steps to a greener community and help folks in our community. Who knows? You may meet new people that you may never have otherwise met!

If you are willing to come on board with us, please call Arlene at 325-3575, or Sharon at 325-7509 or Renita or Bob at 325-6455.

GOING GREEN – IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO!
