Breaking News August 4, 2008 - Port Fun Fest By: Leslie Arendt, for the Daily Tribune It is hard to believe that it is already August, but summer still has some great things to offer, especially in Port Edwards. Now in its fourth year, the Port Edwards Fun Fest, proudly brought to you by the Port Progress Team, will start out on Friday, August 8th.This is a few weeks earlier than it has been in the past so be sure to mark your calendars for the change. Having said that on Friday evening you can make your way down to Edwards-Alexander Park (located at 210 Second Street) and join us for “Prime Time Port Edwards,” our outdoor movie series. The Fun Fest is always a family friendly event and the movies are too. This year along with our car show theme we’ll be showing the Disney animated movie “Cars.” Come early, have a picnic in the park and sit back and enjoy the evening.. Concessions will be plentiful; bring your chairs and blankets. The movie will show around dusk on the back side of the YMCA Youth building. Saturday August 9th will be a day of nonstop activity in for the Fun Fest. The craft fair and tractor show both get started early at 9am.and go to 4pm. We still have room for crafters, so if you are interested please call Julie Beaton at 887-3011 The classic car show will run from 10am to 3pm with trophies being awarded at 2:30 pm. Following the car show will be the car and motorcycle cruise which goes from 3:30 to 5:30. The cruise will go 40 miles through Port Edwards (including a cruise through Edgewater Haven Nursing Home) and Nekoosa with a stop at Glacial Lake Cranberries for refreshments. After the cruise, head back to Edwards Alexander Park for a dance with live music by the blues band Deep Water Reunion. This band has local ties but also has played in various capacities throughout the country. Be sure not to miss this fine entertainment. Food and refreshments will be provided throughout the day and evening, happily being served to you by our local community groups and churches. Included will be burgers, brats, baked goods and beer, just to name a few. What more could you ask for? Last and certainly not least, there will be many activities for the kids during the Fun Fest. Kid’s games and the ever popular dunk tank will be in action from 10-4pm Also the municipal swimming pool will be open and FREE during the event. The staff at the pool will be holding their annual swim-o-ree which includes awesome water games and swimming related activities. And don’t forget the wading pool for the little ones. What a great way to cool off on an early August day.
