August 28, 2008 - Port Fun Fest Thanks Supporters!

By: Rev. Bill Beaton, for the Daily Tribune

On August 8 and 9, 2008, Port Edwards and surrounding communities gathered for one day and two evenings of fun, business opportunities, a look at classic cars and antique tractors, and most of all a chance for wholesome community fellowship.

This year’s Fun Fest held at Edwards-Alexander Park was a great success. Many community volunteers worked very hard to make this a successful event. Even the student council at the Port Edwards High School volunteered that day and significantly contributed to the success of the day. A word of thanks and gratitude is necessary for the dedication of all of these wonderful volunteers.

A large group of children and adults enjoyed the outdoor movie on Friday night which was obvious by the laughter and excitement that emanated from the crowd. There were children’s games and adult activities for most of the day on Saturday. The craft show and tractor and car shows were held throughout the day as well.

Most of the craft and food vendors who consisted of area artists and crafters, groups from local churches, and clubs and other organizations said they were satisfied with sales and many related that they would be back next year. There was a classic car and motorcycle cruise which followed a trophy ceremony awarding trophies to many of the car owners in various categories. The public was invited to vote for their favorite vintage car. The jazz band on Saturday evening was a great way to end the day and festival goers enjoyed an evening listening to the musical talents of the local band, “Deep Water Reunion”.

Fun Fest would not have been a great success without the support of all the people that attended the event. Port Edwards is a wonderful community with beautiful and caring residents who support the village by participating in local events.

This wonderful event was made possible by a grant that was given to the village by the Port Edwards Progress Fund and generous contributions from businesses and individuals in the community. The Port Edwards community is truly grateful for these contributions which allowed everyone to experience two evenings and a day of fun and fellowship and to show other areas that they a cohesive, active and joyful community.
