Breaking News April 21, 2004 - Get Involved in Progress Event We would like to invite all residents of South Wood County and the town of Rome to attend the launch of an exciting new initiative - the Community Progress Initiative - at 4:30 p.m. Thursday inside the Centralia Center, adjacent to Rapids Mall. This kick-off will introduce you to the many facets of community-building programs that we have planned, and we need local residents and business people to make it happen. The Progress Initiative has three main focuses: • Create a business and investment-friendly environment. • Build a strong and positive local community. • Build the area's endowed charitable assets as a solid foundation for future progress. The launch on Thursday also will introduce the Progress Rallies that will take place during the next two weeks in Nekoosa, Port Edwards, Vesper, Rudolph, Pittsville, town of Rome and Wisconsin Rapids. Progress Rallies will assist communities in four major areas: • Identify how you would like to progress. • Chart a path on how to get there. • Build your community's capacity along the way. • And build charitable dollars for new opportunities. Our guest speaker, David Beurle of Innovative Leadership Australia, has worked with similar small communities faced with job losses and a slow economy. He will share his expertise and stimulate ideas to create an innovative, self-reliant culture in a vibrant community with a prosperous local economy. We urge you to come to Centralia Center on Thursday and hear David's "Make It Happen" and "Be Positive - Be Involved" messages. Every community needs people to get involved and make it happen, and now is the time to give input on the direction of our area's future, become a leader, or pitch in to help create success.
