Letter to the Editor

A few years ago, after returning from a vacation in Bayfield, I decided to make a conscious effort to view our town through the eyes of a tourist. What a beautiful place to live.

As I drive to work along the river, or ride my bike around town, I make a daily choice to enjoy the beauty. I enjoy walking downtown, and I really appreciate the effort that has gone into adding some character through the red bricks on the crosswalks, the quaint street lights, added touches to buildings and gardens that have been flourishing.

Bob and I have chosen to be part of this community and to raise our family here for the past 29 years. I always have been impressed with the number of committed people who have been willing to make this a great area in which to live. But now I see something even more exciting happening. Recently, I spent the morning at the Ridges listening to reports by each of seven groups that have been diligently working on ideas for our Community Progress Initiative. What a great morning.

In spite of recent setbacks, hundreds of people are coming together and channeling their energy in the same direction to come up with a comprehensive plan to take "the heart of Wisconsin" to the next step. What an awesome team.

My heartfelt thanks goes out to each individual who has invested time, energy or resources to work on this project. You are greatly appreciated.
